Detail of the day 2!

Came across this while rummaging. The original rough for the cover of 2000 AD 23. There's something a bit segregationist about my notes on there. I'm not sure why "no blacks". I think I'd been advised to avoid too much black ink on that terrible newsprint paper they were using.

  1. Congratulations on the stamp - well deserved of course. This cover always reminds me of the later 'jigsaw man' story you did for Dredd - 2000AD had some great illnesses!

  2. Yes. Some great illnesses. The Jigsaw Man. I'll have to search out the cover I did for the Eagle edition.

    1. The Eagle cover of that guy with mushroomitis or whatever was particularly haunting!

  4. brian, iv'e noticed a big gap between the rough for this and the finished inked version. for instance, the fingers are very diffrent, and the shoulders and things like that... how come is that???

  6. I remember the ink on that newsprint very well on my weekly visits to the local newsagent to pickup 2000ad. Good times. I also met you a couple of times when I was back in the UK and you were working for 2000AD and also doing the Camelot series.
