Detail of the day.

I was asked to include some pages from my Vampire Circus story for House of Hammer circa 1977. These are the only two I have immediately to hand. I'll see if I can find some more. Both of these pages had to be censored, the blood splatters painted out, for its actual publication.

  1. Thanks very much for posting these pages - it's an absolute thrill to see them uncensored! I'm a big Vampire Circus fan which is mainly down to you , because I read the strip before seeing the film ( Same goes for John Bolton's Dracula Prince Of Darkness) , so it's was doubly interesting to see the difference between the Vampire Circus strip's ending and your strip. I believe you might of been working with an earlier script draft? In the film Mitterhouse gets beheaded with a crossbow wire.

    Many thanks ,

    Adrian

  3. The magazine HOUSE OF HAMMER is getting a lot of love recently, there's even a DVD extra about it on the new blu-ray and DVD special edition of the movie VAMPIRE CIRCUS. When it was published, even in its censored form, it far more violent, compared to what else was around. Which is why I, in my teenage form, sought out every issue!

  4. Seven pages of this strip including these two were reproduced in my book "The art of Brian Bolland". (See my earlier post.) Get yourself a copy from Amazon or another bookseller.
